Yes the current version does support well PPP interfaces. You can try  
the enclosed patch which solves this problem (must be applied on UMIP  
0.4 before any other NEPL or MCoA patch), or try another solution with  
OpenVPN instead of l2tp. A document to setup OpenVPN is available here:
